  • People Helping People

  • “Open to Everyone”

  • Run by St. Matthew Ministry Volunteers

What is SHARE?

  • SHARE (Self-Help and Resource Exchange)--a food purchasing & delivery system devoted to providing affordable, high quality food to those willing to help themselves and others.

  • It is a nationwide program established in 1983.  Share Food of Central Illinois serves 170+ host sites, one of which is at St. Matthew.

  • Food units contain frozen meat and/or fresh produce & are available for purchase once a month.

What SHARE is not!

  • It’s NOT. . . a government program
  • It’s NOT. . . a welfare program
  • It’s NOT. . . a handout
  • It’s NOT. . . free, salvage or donated food

  • SHARE is an opportunity to save money on food!

  • SHARE buyers in Peoria purchase food in bulk directly from growers, brokers, and packaging plants.  Its reasonable prices are the result of substantial volunteer efforts.

SHARE Food is “Open to Everyone”
  • There are no income guidelines, no eligibility requirements, no membership fees & no gimmicks.

  • It is “People Helping People”-a large group of volunteers who make sure that quality food packages are distributed each and every month. They promote volunteer service and partnerships with other community volunteer driven organizations.
